Youth Development Officer (YDO) Lucretia Sperring

The Youth Development Officer (YDO) is responsible for developing policies and strategies for the development and participation of young people in the Southern Fleurieu region, providing planning and co-ordination of services, facilities and projects that identify needs and provide opportunities for youth development across the region. The  YDO is currently working over the Southern Fleurieu region and is in the position at 4 days per week Monday – Thursday.

The YDO works with many committees and youth networks at both a regional and on a State level:

  • The Southern Fleurieu Youth Network
  • Southern Fleurieu Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)
  • Wet Paint Youth Theatre Group
  • The Mental Health and Wellbeing Group
  • The Housing Round Table

Market Stall Ready Boot Camp

Young people living in the Victor Harbor and Alexandrina region have an opportunity to learn more about what it takes to run a market stall.

The Market Stall Ready Boot Camp is an initiative of the City of Victor Harbor and Alexandrina Council in conjunction with the City of Tea Tree Gully. The aim of the boot camp is to give young people aged between 12 and 25 the information and skill development that will assist them become a market stall holder. It will cover how to get an ABN, present your wares, customer service tips, where the market opportunities are, small business ideas, and so much more.

The Market Stall Ready Boot Camp will be held on Saturday, 2 February 2019 from 11am until 4pm at the Victor Harbor Recreation Centre.

Youth Development Officer for the City of Victor Harbor and Alexandrina Council, Lucretia Sperring, encouraged young people to register for the boot camp.

“We have a lot of talented, young makers and designers within our community and I really encourage them to take up this great opportunity and learn how to turn their creations in to potential cash,” said Ms Sperring.

“While participants of the boot camp will be given the skills to run their own market stalls at a variety of community events and markets, our aim is to get them ready for the ‘Step Up’ Youth Street Festival which is planned to be held in Victor Harbor 1 March 2019.”

Southern Fleurieu Youth Network

The Southern Fleurieu Youth Network (SFYN) facilitates the coordination and collaboration between youth services in the region, supports the development of youth services and facilities and provides a forum for information exchange between youth services.

Southern Fleurieu Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)

YAC members all represent different groups of young people aged between 12 - 25 from the Southern Fleurieu region. This may include a school, community group, youth group, church, cultural group or youth agency. YAC aims to have a diverse membership so that the views of as many different young people as possible are representative. YAC members meet every 3rd week on a Tuesday and meetings are held in Goolwa and Victor Harbor and also participate in the running and event management of several youth, community events and blue light discos throughout the year.

Being a representative means that you need to “keep in touch” with what the views, ideas and issues of concern for the young people you are representing. You can do this in a number of way:

  • Informal chats
  • Advertise in school newsletter
  • Speak to a class or at school assembly
  • Surveys and questionnaires
  • Form discussion groups
  • Suggestion box
  • Speak to youth workers
  • Keep an eye on the news - local, Sate wide, national and international
  • Get out there and talk to people
  • Web site discussion groups
  • Forums and youth events
  • Small focus groups

Being in YAC is a great way of participating in your community and having an input to your local Council; YAC is a fun and social group to be involved with and a great way to make friends.

Learn how to make short films on your phone

Calling all budding, young film makers!!

Do you want to learn how to make short films on your mobile or tablets? If you are aged between 12 and 24, then you have an opportunity to attend a series of workshops in Goolwa during the July school holidays. 

The workshops will run over 8 days from 9th July to the 16th of July 2018 and will be based at Signal Point. There will be off site filming at various locations in Goolwa and surrounds. During the workshops you will learn about story boarding, creating, shooting, costume and prop design and editing short films from experienced tutors. You can attend all sessions or just a few depending on your area of interest.

Films produced during the workshops will be entered into the Youth Showcase Extravaganza Short Film Festival on Friday November the 2nd  2018.

There are a limited number of spaces available for the workshops, and you must be able to commit to attend all the sessions and have your own mobile device, or work with someone that does have a device that is capable of filming and downloading apps for editing.

These workshops are sure to fill fast, so secure your place now to avoid disappointment. These workshops are provided by the City of Victor Harbor and Alexandrina Council and are part of the Councils’ Youth Development Program.

Wet Paint Youth Theatre Productions

Wet Paint Youth Theatre Productions will again commence its weekly drama workshop program on Monday’s from 4.30pm to 6.00pm in Goolwa’s Centenary Hall.  Weekly workshops involve drama skill development, drama games, film making and work on live theatre performance pieces.

These fun and creative workshops are driven by young people with the assistance of our Director Luke Allen Wet Paint is for young people aged 12 to 25 years of age living in either City of Victor Harbor or Alexandrina Council areas.

This year's Showcase Extravaganza will be held on Friday 2nd Nov at 7pm at Centenary Hall, Goolwa.

FUSION Music and Skate Youth Week Event - 15th April 2018

The Alexandrina Council and City of Victor Harbor’s Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) and Youth Development Officer Lucretia Sperring coordinate this showcase of raw energy, enthusiasm and talent. 

On Sunday 15th April 2018, a FUSION 18 of young talent was on display at the Victor Harbor Skate and Youth Park, Bridge Terrace Victor Harbor, from 11am – 5pm. 

The City of Victor Harbor and Alexandrina Council’s Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) and Youth Officer Lucretia Sperring had worked hard to put together this show case of raw energy, enthusiasm and talent. 

This year’s event saw fantastic music with artists such as AllWake, Jessi Jasmine & Luke, Maggie O’Moore, What Happens After Dark, Something to Rescue and Genesis and Hailey entertaining us all throughout the afternoon.

This year we had the added bonus of The Southern Riders Committee running a Skate Park Comp with Bikes, Boards and Scooters all getting to enjoy the day. Free Fun all ages Sumo Suits, giant games, activities plus great food for sale to keep that hunger at bay. The City of Victor Harbor, The YAC and The Office for Youth have lent their support to the event.

Colour Me Senseless - Annual Youth Art Exhibition

“Colour me Senseless” is The Regional Youth Art Exhibition showcases the works of young people aged 13–25 years from across the City of Victor Harbor and Alexandrina Council areas. It aims to encourage young emerging artists and arts students in our community to get actively involved in the local arts scene. The exhibition is an awesome opportunity to showcase your individual creative talent and produce something artistic that is exciting, striking, stimulating or thought provoking.

Colour Me Senseless gives the talented young people of our region a great opportunity to exhibit their work. The exhibition accepts all art forms including paintings, sculpture, instillation and photography.

The Regional Youth Art Exhibition will be held at the Signal Point Gallery Goolwa Opening night is Friday November 9th and the exhibition will run from the 9th of November – 9th of December 2018.

The disco’s are held in two age groups  7-11 years olds from 6.30pm to 8pm and 12-17 year olds 8.30pm to 10.30pm.
Refreshments, giveaways and great music is on offer, so get those dancing shoes ready and don't miss out. These discos will be a great night out for all of you young people aged 7 to 17. DJ Roxy will be cranking the tunes and there will be heaps of fun giveaways throughout the night.

The Underage Rage is a LOCK IN event so we will need parents to drop you off and pick you up at the DOOR.

This event is an alcohol and drug free event for the young people of the Southern Fleurieu, so come along and have some fun, entry fee is $5 and tickets are to be sold at the door. A canteen is available with very cheap drinks, chips and chockies.

The Blue Light Disco is an initiative of the SA Police and is organised by the Southern Fleurieu Blue Light Committee and supported by the Alexandrina Council and City of Victor Harbor.
