The City of Victor Harbor is thrilled to be hosting the Stage 5 finish on Saturday, 25 January 2020. It will be the 14th time Victor Harbor has hosted a finish in the internationally acclaimed cycling event.

The Santos Tour Down Under not only provides an opportunity for us to show off our beautiful region to the world, it provides an important boost to our local economy by drawing crowds somewhere in the vicinity of 15,000.

Stage 5 will start at Glenelg and weave its way to Victor Harbor passing through McLaren Vale, Meadows, Strathalbyn and Goolwa.

2019/20 Budget: Investing in Victor Harbor’s Future

2019/20 Annual Business Plan and Budget adopted

The City of Victor Harbor adopted its 2019/20 Annual Business Plan and Budget at a special council meeting on Monday, 8 July 2019.

The $39.2 million budget reflects the Council’s commitment to ensure Victor Harbor remains a great place to live, invest and visit.

We know that to secure a bright future for Victor Harbor we need to invest in important services and infrastructure that meets our community’s needs and supports our growth. In fact in 2019/20 we will deliver one of our biggest capital works programs which means more footpaths, revitalised public spaces, as well as improvements to roads, community facilities and stormwater systems.

What does this mean for rates? Due to significant capital valuation growth, the Council has been able to maintain its differential rates at 2018/19 levels. A $40 increase to the fixed charge component of council rates to $390 means that properties that have had no change to capital value since 1 July 2018 will pay $40 more for the year. If the capital value has changed, rates will be an extra $40 plus an additional amount based on the increase in capital value as determined by the Valuer General.

Festivals and Events Sponsorship Program

Apply by 5pm on 30 August 2019

Council has introduced a new way to allocate and manage its sponsorship of festivals and events throughout the City of Victor Harbor.

The number of Council sponsored events held in Victor Harbor has grown over the years with more than 16 major events held most years, including eleven annual community run events, which have previously been assessed for sponsorship by Council on an individual basis.

The new Festivals and Events Sponsorship program aims to create greater awareness of the support that is available from Council to community run events, encourages events to think about sustainability and inclusivity, and streamlines the application process for community groups and Council.

Round one of the Festivals and Events Sponsorship Program is now open for applications. Download the application form and return it to the City of Victor Harbor by 5pm on 30 August 2019.

For further information contact the Festivals and Events Officer on 8551 0500.

Lots to Love about our Library

Thank you for your feedback

Earlier this year, Council asked for your feedback on our library. This was a part of a broader review of services offered by the library in order to see if things can be done differently to gain efficiencies and better meet the needs of our community.

On the whole the responses showed that the library is an important community hub, and more than a place to borrow books. From all of the comments we received, we identified seven common themes that we need to look into further including:

  • Accessibility – opening hours and car parking
  • Facility – amenity, feel and usefulness of the spaces and meeting rooms
  • Collections – expanding the collection of books available in the library to better meet customers’ needs
  • Events and programs – a desire for more adult events and training opportunities
  • Our People – staff and volunteers in the library are helpful and friendly
  • Technology – improving the equipment and software available, and providing more assistance
  • Communication – opportunities to better communicate library news and events

A snapshot of what we learnt from your responses is available here or in hard copy from the library.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views with us. Your contribution will assist us with future planning for the library.
