Fortnightly Kerbside Waste Collection Starts 1 July

Kersbide Collection Starts 1 July

New kerbside waste collection calendars have hit mailboxes in preparation for the City of Victor Harbor’s transition to a fortnightly kerbside collection schedule from 1 July. The calendar, and Recycling and Disposal Guide for Households and Small Businesses, that was also provided to residents will be useful resources to assist with the implementation of the new system.

Under the new collection schedule residents will put their general waste and green organics bin (where applicable) out one week, and then the recycle bin the next week. The best way to make sure you are putting the right bin out is to check your collection calendar or use the search tool on the Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority website. The new calendar will be available on the online search tool from 30 June.

Households where large families, children in nappies or those who produce waste as a result of a medical condition reside permanently are able to apply for an addition 140 litre waste bin and collection service. To apply, download an application form from www.victor.sa.gov.au/waste and return it in person to the City of Victor Harbor Civic Centre at 1 Bay Road, Victor Harbor.

George T Fisher Playground is almost complete!

George T Fisher playground is almost complete!

Exciting news! The George T Fisher Nature Playground project will be complete and open for the July school holidays.

The new nature playground is a result of a successful partnership between the City of Victor Harbor and the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure with grant funding of $220,000 from the Planning and Development Fund Open Space Grant Program contributing to the cost of the $430,000 project.

To celebrate the completion of the project, Council is holding an official opening on Flinders Parade at the nature playground on Saturday, 6 July 2019 from 10am. We’d love for you to come along and celebrate with us, try out the new playground and enjoy a free sausage sizzle.

Dog and Cat Registration Renewals Coming Soon

Dog and Cat Registration Renewals

Dog and cat owners will soon receive registration renewal notices. The renewals are managed through the State-wide portal, www.dogsandcatsonline.com.au.

Dogs and Cats Online is a one-stop online service for all annual registration payments, as well as dog and cat microchipping, desexing and breeder details. It was introduced in 2018 to streamline pet registration and information across South Australia.

The registration renewal notices will be sent to pet owners by post, email or SMS, depending on the option chosen when setting up your pets profile last year. City of Victor Harbor pet owners will receive their notices the week beginning 1 July. The notices will include instructions on how to manage your pet’s information and pay the annual registration fee.

Last year to support the transition to the new online system the City of Victor Harbor provided support to residents that wanted assistance or didn’t have access to the internet. It will be providing the same support this year, with residents able to attend the City of Victor Harbor Library with their renewal notice to get assistance completing their registration online.

As well as using the online portal to finalise registrations, residents can still come into the Council Office and make cash payments at the customer service counter.

Dog and cat registrations are due by 31 August.

Mainstreet Upgrade Well Underway

Mainstreet Upgrade Well Underway

It’s full steam ahead for the Victor Harbor Mainstreet Precinct Upgrade with Stage 2 construction works well underway. Work on the eastern side of Ocean Street is nearing completion, and the construction zone will soon move to the western side (same side as the medical centre) with vehicles still able to travel down Ocean Street.

To assist the community during the construction period, Council has developed a brochure that includes a map that shows car parking areas to make it easier for people to access the Precinct. Hard copies are also available from the site office at 55 Ocean Street and the Civic Centre at 1 Bay Road, Victor Harbor.

The City of Victor Harbor also recently received news that it has been successful in securing $981,500 grant funding from the SA Government towards construction costs for Stage 3 of the upgrade which will see the transformation of the eastern end of Coral Street (from the Ocean Street intersection right down to the foreshore).

Detailed design for Stage 3 of the Victor Harbor Mainstreet Precinct Upgrade is currently being finalized and, pending endorsement of Council’s 2019/20 Annual Business Plan and Budget, construction is expected to commence in May 2020.
