2018/19 Budget Update

What do you want from your council?

The City of Victor Harbor is currently looking at how it will allocate ratepayers funds in 2018/19 to the vast range of programs and services it provides.

Community involvement is central to this important decision making process.

A formal public consultation process is expected to commence in mid-May on the council’s draft 2018/19 Annual Business Plan and Budget. The draft plan will describe how council will allocate its budget and what services, programs and projects it intends to undertake in the next 12 months.

More details about the consultation and how to have your say will be provided in the May edition of Victor Viewpoint.

Work Starts on Railway Turntable Upgrade

Watch this space!

The redevelopment of the Railway Turntable site on Eyre Terrace aims to celebrate Victor Harbor’s rich railway heritage, at the same time as enhancing a public place for people to enjoy.

The turntable mechanism will be the feature of the site. It is used by SteamRanger to turn the train and face the opposite direction, allowing it to reverse back to the station and re-connect to its carriages and transport passengers back to Goolwa.

The redevelopment involves the installation of new safety fencing, landscaping, seating, shelter, paving, pathways, heritage interpretation, public art and car parking.

Construction commenced at the end of March and is scheduled to be complete by July 2018.

New Float for Victor Harbor Horse Tram

New float for Victor Harbor Horse Tram

The delivery of a new float and vehicle to the Victor Harbor Horse Drawn Tram marks the completion of another recommendation from the committee driving the renewal of the iconic attraction.

Following the comprehensive review into the operation of the service, the Victor Harbor Horse Drawn Tram Committee made a number of recommendations which were unanimously supported by council members. These recommendations included the establishment of a new management authority and insourcing the floating of horses.

With the charter for the new management authority on its way to the Minister for Local Government for approval, the arrival of the new horse float and vehicle is another milestone the committee is thrilled to see delivered.

The bespoke Olympic float was built in Gepps Cross specifically for the tram’s team of Clydesdales. It is a similar float used by SAPOL for their horses.

Victor Harbor Horse Tram staff will operate the float, towing it to and from the Causeway each day with the Mitsibishi ute purchased through McIlroy Auto Group in Victor Harbor.

The Victor Harbor Horse Tram Committee’s next focus is to work with City of Victor Harbor administration to prepare for the establishment of the management authority.
