Have your say: 2017/18 Annual Business Plan and Budget

Have your say on Council's draft budget

The City of Victor Harbor is seeking your feedback on its draft 2017/18 Annual Business Plan and Budget.

Council is proposing a $26.4 million operating expenditure resulting in a deficit of $379,500 and a net capital works program of $5.3 million.

City of Victor Harbor Mayor Graham Philp said that while each budget process brings with it the challenge of balancing competing priorities, preparing the 2017/18 budget has been particularly difficult.

“Council is aware of the tough economic climate and resulting pressures on households. However, we also have a responsibility to invest appropriately in the future of Victor Harbor,” said Mayor Philp.

“We have endeavoured to present a draft budget that provides for services and infrastructure that meet the expectations of our community at the same time as minimising the financial impact on households.”

“To keep rate increases as low as possible we have had to make some tough decisions including reducing some existing services, scaling back ICT investment and deferring numerous projects.”

Council has budgeted to raise $20.7 million through council rates. For residential ratepayers this will mean an average increase on last year’s rates on 3.1% or $55 for the year.

Help the Victor Harbor Men’s Shed Secure $50,000

Victor Harbor Men's Shed Vote

The Victor Harbor Men’s Shed (VHMS) is calling on the local community to assist them in securing $50,000 in grant funding for a commercial kitchen in their new facility which is due to start construction in July 2017.

The VHMS applied for funding through the State Government’s ‘Fund My Community’ grants program which has $1 million to improve the lives of disadvantaged, vulnerable and isolated South Australians.

The grant program is different to normal because the community decides which projects get funded. This is where you can assist.

To help the Victor Harbor Men’s Shed secure funding for their commercial kitchen, you need to vote for their project. Only the projects with the most support (community votes) will receive government funding.

Find out how you can vote for the Victor Harbor Men’s Shed proposal.

Submit your vote before Monday, 29 May 2017.
